Agilent SAN Tester for 1, 2, 4 and 8Gb/s Fibre Channel

Agilent's 173x Series Fibre Channel Test systems are used to debug, characterize, validate and test Fibre Channel based equipment, systems, infrastructures and services. They are used by leading Semiconductor and Equipment manufacturers, System integrators, Network and Service providers, and also end-user organisations.

The SAN Tester application is also highly relevant to major enterprises such as financial institutions for testing the standards conformance, performance, interworking compatibility and fallback resilience of their critical storage area networks.

Overview

The Agilent SAN Tester modular, scalable test solution combines Fibre Channel Protocol Analysis, Traffic Generation and Fabric Performance Measurement in a common versatile, multi-user N2X chassis, helping you get instant insights into your system with multiple applications and analysis tools. The SAN tester software application helps you configure your test modules to stimulate your Fibre Channel design with configurable traffic and characterize its performance and scalability with multiple real-time measurements including Throughput, Latency, Lost frames and Errors. The SAN Tester application can be used to test Fibre Channel Semiconductors, Switches, Directors & Fabrics. Each test port can be configured as one or multiple Fibre Channel devices sending and receiving wire speed traffic to other devices. Port to Port, partial mesh and full mesh configurations can be created, testing your devices with realistic or extreme traffic conditions. It provides extensive parametric control of wire speed Fibre Channel Traffic generation and real time continuous monitoring of performance, robustness, reliability of SAN systems. Thanks to the scalability of the Agilent platform, it can test individual devices to large-scale SAN infrastructures.

Fibre Channel Protocol Analysis

The Protocol Analysis software application will help you record traffic between multiple Fibre Channel devices, display it with the appropriate decoding function, helping you quickly find out the root cause of elusive problems. Each analyzer is able to capture relevant information by combining a deep trace and an intuitive high-level multilevel, multi-branch triggering and filtering sequencer. Time correlation is provided between all of the analyzers modules, enabling multi-port, system-level measurement

System Configuration

The Agilent SAN Tester system consists of a dedicated N2X system controller and one or more N2X chassis containing SAN Test Modules for specific test requirements. The system controller provides a graphical interface to drive applications running on the Test Modules.

System Controller

A number of system controllers are available depending on your performance requirements. The controller provides an easy-to use Windows® environment.

SAN Tester Modules

1736A -Fibre Channel Test Module 2 Ports - 1, 2, 4 and 8Gb/s FC

1736B - Fibre Channel Test Module 4 Ports - 1, 2, 4 and 8Gb/s FC

1735A - Fibre Channel Test Module 2 Ports - 1, 2, and 4 Gb/s FC

The tester modules combine Fibre Channel protocol analysis, traffic generation and performance test on multiple independent pairs of Fibre Channel ports. Downloading the appropriate features on the modules prior to the test makes it possible to reuse the same hardware for different test scenarios.

Configured as a protocol analyzer, the module includes independent full-duplex analysis subsystems, each one able to capture relevant information on a deep trace buffer through an intuitive high-level multilevel, multibranch triggering and filtering sequencer. Time correlation is provided between all of the analyzers, enabling multiport, system-level measurement.

Configured as an active tester with the SAN Tester application, the module provides Fibre Channel traffic generation on independent ports at wire speeds of 1 Gb/s to 8 Gb/s, with allowances for any combination of data, error, link, fabric control and fabric services test. Each port can be independently set up and operated, and provides simultaneous line speed traffic generation and real-time continuous measurement capabilities. Live measurements can be made while test is running, helping you see in real time the operation of your system under test.
